The GAM is the biggest museum dedicated to the nineteenth century in Milan. The museum takes place inside the beautiful halls of Villa Reale, a Neoclassical masterpiece designed by architect Leopold Pollack, the exhibition is made of two sections:

  • Collezione dell’Ottocento (Collection of the XIX century): from the Neoclassicism of Andrea Appiani and Canova, to the romanticism as interpreted by Francesco Hayez, with works by such masters as Tranquillo Cremona, Giovanni Boldini, Medardo Rosso, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, Giovanni Segantini, Gaetano Previati and Angelo Morbelli.
  • Grassi and Vismara Collections: these two generous donations have brought the the GAM works of great European artists such as Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse Picasso, along with the futuristic works of Boccioni, Balla, Modigliani and Morandi.
